These steps include obtaining a unique entity identifier (UEI) or a Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number, registering your organization with the System for Award Management (<a href=\"https:\/\/sam.gov\/content\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SAM.gov<\/a>), and registering your organization with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grants.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">grants.gov<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Obtain A Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) Or A DUNS Number<\/h3>\n<p>The first step to take when applying for a federal grant is to obtain a unique entity identifier (UEI) or a DUNS number. Specifically, you will obtain a DUNS number if you are applying before April 4, 2022; if you are applying after April 4, 2022, then you will obtain a UEI. You can obtain a DUNS number by filling out the online application on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dnb.com\/duns-number\/get-a-duns.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dun and Bradstreet website<\/a>. You can also call Dun and Bradstreet to register as well. You will need the following information to complete the application for a DUNS number:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your business\u2019 full legal name<\/li>\n<li>The legal status of your business<\/li>\n<li>The year you established your business<\/li>\n<li>Address and phone number<\/li>\n<li>The products and services you provide<\/li>\n<li>The number of employees your business has<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As mentioned, you do not need a DUNS number if you are applying after April 4, 2022. Instead, you will visit SAM.gov and they can assign you a free UEI, which is a 12-character alphanumeric value.<\/p>\n<h3>Register Your Organization With The System for Award Management (SAM.gov)<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sam.gov\/content\/home\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After you have your UEI or DUNS number, then you should register your organization with the System for Award Management on SAM.gov. The System for Award Management is an online website that is owned and operated by the federal government and gives contractors the opportunity to list and <a href=\"\/how-to-procure-government-contracts-for-your-small-business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">market their business to various government agencies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>SAM.gov provides excellent support via live chat and video assistance if you have any issues with the registration process. You will need to register under the entity registration page on their website. They will ask a series of questions, and you will have to provide your DUNS number. It can take up to ten days for your organization to be approved and show up after you submit the entity registration form.<\/p>\n<h3>Register Your Organization With Grants.gov<\/h3>\n<p>Lastly, to apply for a federal grant, you will need to register your organization with grants.gov. This website, which is owned and operated by the Department of Health and Human Services, is the only official access point for all federal grant-making agencies. There are no fees associated with grants.gov registration.<\/p>\n<p>Grants.gov allows you to register, search for federal grant opportunities (of which there are more than 1,000 programs), and apply.
